    Description

    One page autographed letter signed by Paderewski's agent on his letterhead in German, London, no place.  He writes to a Mr. Berger in Dresden.
    Addlington (1837- after 1904) was born in Southwell.  He attended and graduated from the Royal Academy of Music. In 1861 he was a music professor at the University in Aberdeen, Scotland where he taught piano and chorus and was Director of the royal Aberdeen University Orchestra. In 1865 he was made an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music and in 1882 he was made a fellow. He married in 1862 ans moved to Edinburgh in 1864 and eventually moved to Ratho.  His wife left him in the early 1880's apparently was having affairs with his students for years, took one of their daughters and moved to Italy.  By 1891, he was living at home with his parents who had moved to Scotland and was writing and selling music to make ends meet.  His parents passed away shortly after his arrival.  He moved to London shortly after his parents death and reinvented himself as an impresario, agent and concert booker.  He purchased Daniel Mayer's concert agency in 1896 and met Jan Paderewski shortly there afterwards as Mayer had been his agent.  Addlington arranged for the 1904 Paderewski tour of Australia and New Zealand.  He also wrote a book and several articles about Paderewski.
