    Description

Autographed and inscribed 8” x 10” photograph of the legendary organist at the console of the 5 manual Aeolian Skinner organ at the Riverside Church in New York City.  This photograph is c. 1960’s, but prior to 1964.  The photograph inscribed to Dora Craig who was a sponsor of Dr. Fox and whose twin daughters Eleanor and Frances were his private pupils.
Fox (1912-1980) was a deeply religious man and despite the flashy costumes and concerts was always a church organist first.  He spent from 1946-1965 as the titular organist of the Riverside Church in New York City.  He presided over the installation of a new console in 1948, he designed the new organ which was installed in 1964.
Fox studied with Middleschult, Dupré and Vierne became the true ambassador of the organ of his day.  While Biggs was quiet and reserved in his public persona, Fox was outspoken proponent of the instrument and bucked conventional trends by touring the World with an Rodgers and an Allen electric organs at non traditional venues playing Bach and other composers complete with light shows and brassy costumes.
While signed records do show up, autographed photographs tend to be scarce.
    Will combine purchases.  Thank you!
