Description
Victor began making bats around 1894 and continued doing so after their merger with Wright and Ditson in 1910. Subsequent to the merger their bats were identified as Wright & Ditson - Victor. The bat does does not bear the Victor name but the BV100 marking is a dead give away. Bats referred to as "The Victor" bear the EXACT same BV100 marking in the exact same script. One marked this way can currently be viewed on the Worthpoint site. This bat was apparently made for a department or sporting goods store in Philadelphia, as the round gold decal reveals PHILADELPHIA PA at the very bottom. Just above Philadelphia, the name MARSH or possibly MARSHALL can be read. It is followed by a longer word which is difficult to read but the first three letters may be CAL? The decal also shows, very faintly, in the center what appears to be a baseball. I believe Victor did use a winged ball logo at some point to identify their products. The bat is 33" long, 36 to 37 ounces and has burned-in markings. Not cracked and the knob is fully intact. No deadwood or missing pieces, but lots of dents and dings from use. Great example of a bat well over 100 years old and a nice mystery to try to figure out who the Philadelphia company was that distributed these bats? If you know their name, I would appreciate any info you could provide. Inquiries welcome.
