    pfer (1865-1920) was the pre-eminent bass in Germany at the turn of the Century, making his debut in 1887 in the provincial theatre of Sonderhausen, rising to Leipzig a year later and Berlin in 1898.  He created leading bass roles for Humperdink, Leoncavallo and Chabrier, while premiering the role of Baron Ochs in “Der Rosenkavalier” in Berlin and London at Covent Garden.
    Scarce, especially in larger photographs!
