    Description

You are bidding on a personal typed signed letter to me dated April 11, 1968 from MILTON BABBITT (1916-2011) American composer, theorist, mathematician and teacher. Letter on PRINCETON UNIVERSITY letterhead where Babbitt taught.
The letter concerned the music he wrote for the 1949 film, "IN THE GOOD GROUND."
    Dear Mr. Jones,
Please forgive my tardiness in responding to your flattering inquiry. But, in all truth, I did not know the answer to your question, since the original producer of the film had long since turned it over to a television film agency. As a result, unfortunately, the film is shown often on TV, fortunately, with the credits removed, and, also fortunately, only on Sunday morning inspirational programs. In truth, the film was a pretentious bore, and I think it should be allowed to expire in that appropriate TV resting place.
Thank you again for your interest, and if ever I have the opportunity to write a score for an interesting film, you'll be the first to know.
    Very sincerely,
    (singed) Milton Babbitt
The letter, envelope and BMI 1965 flyer (with bio and listing of works)are all in excellent condition.
