    Description

Typed letter signed to "Mr. Sweeney" dated December 19, 1977 relative to the assignment of rights of publication
    Author:
    ORNSTEIN, Leo 1893-2002
    Title:
Typed letter signed to "Mr. Sweeney" dated December 19, 1977 relative to the assignment of rights of publication
    Description:
    1 page. Folio.
A short letter in which Ornstein thanks Sweeney and "Mr. Murphy" for their "cooperation," stating that "it would be simpler to have the works assigned directly to the Joshua Corp." With Ornstein's typed address in Brownsville, Texas to head.
    Creased at folds.
Ornstein was a Ukrainian-born American composer, pianist, and teacher.
"In January and February 1915 he gave a series of four recitals at the Bandbox Theatre in New York, which quickly led to Ornstein becoming something of a cult figure, especially for the tone clusters that became his trademark... Though Ornstein was rediscovered by Vivian Perlis and others in the 1970s - he received the Marjorie Peabody Waite Award from the National Institute of Arts and Letters in 1975 - much of his output remains unknown. Two of his finest works, the Piano Sonatas nos.7 and 8, were written when the composer was in his 90s." Michael Broyles and Carol J. Oja in Grove Music Online.
