    LEO DELIBES~LETTER~1876~PARIS~SYLVIA
    DELIBES, Leo. Autograph Letter Signed ("L.D.") in black fountain pen ink, n.p., n.d., but Thursday, 1876. French text. 5 1/4" x 8 1/4", 2 pages on bifold leaf. Very good (minor signs of handling).
    Delibes pens this letter presumably in 1876 during the opening of his ballet "Sylvia" at the Paris Opera house. He expresses enthusiasm over the box office receipts.
    In part: "...here are the names that you asked for...the receipts were excellent..."
    He then discusses the performances of several cast members.
    Leo Delibes (1836-1891), born February 21, 1836; died January 16, 1891; French composer of ballets, operas and other works for the stage; Delibes' work is known to have been a great influence on composers such as Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saens and Debussy; his ballet "Sylvia" was of special interest to Tchaikovsky, who wrote Delibes' score.
