Description
I am not an expert in this field, please ask questions and I'll tell you what I know. Estate fresh, bought from a super collector of high end clocks.*I don't know how to wind or set this item to know if it works or not so it will be SOLD AS IS, assuming it needs servicing.
JOHN POOLE ROSEWOOD (2-DAY?) MARINE CHRONOMETER WITH POOLE’S AUXILLIARY COMPENSATION BALANCE (?). The brass clock is suspended and moves smoothly in its brass holder. The beveled glass face is approx. 4" in diameter and face is signed John Poole, Maker To The Admiralty, 57 Fenchurch St., London, No 2 (?). Roman numerals. The wood case is Rosewood I believe, darker than my outdoor photos indicate. Celestial Marine Navigation Timepiece! Please ignore glare or reflection in my photos taken outdoors.
I see no markings easily found on the chronometer body. The top box is monogrammed with MBK and measures about 5 1/4" tall, 6 3/4" wide and 6 3/4" deep. The box lid does have a few light scratches but nothing to distract (see photos). The box opens perfectly. Not sure of the age but my wild guess would be 1950-1960's? It has brass handles but I would not use those to support this rather heavy item.
