ELGIN Model 600 Marine Chronometer Case and Partial Movement #529

Up for sale is a
1943 ELGIN Model 600 Marine chronometer "Brass and Glass Case" and "Incomplete Movement", for Parts or Restoration
.
The parts in this sale are approximately 78 years old, and in generally good cosmetic condition for their age. Please note that some parts may have accumulated oxidation, light scratches, dried lubricant or other residue due to many decades of storage.
The
clock dial and the movement
have matching Elgin serial number 529.
The
clock dial
is in very good condition, but may show very slight traces of wear, smudges or dirt (see photos)
The
glass and adjoining bezel rim
are in excellent condition. The glass is good and has only a couple of very minor imperfections that are visible under high magnification with bright side lighting. My notes show there are 3 very fine short scratch marks.
They are quite shallow and are not visible in the photos. Although the glass is not absolutely perfect, it is pretty good.
The
brass tub
is in generally good condition, but has some areas showing mostly superficial scratches or rub-marks, primarily on the lacquer finish. There are no apparent dents nor deep scratches on the brass tub.
The
spring loaded dust seal disc
works properly, and is not "stuck".
The clock and case together weigh in at 3.6 pounds total.
These Elgin 600 brass cases are also fully fit-compatible with Hamilton Model 21 chronometer movements.
This item came from the estate of a former collector.
