    Reiner (1888-1963) was a prominent conductor of opera and symphonic music. He led the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (1938-1948), the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (1953-1963), and the Metropolitan Opera. He recorded frequently.
    In 1947, Reiner appeared on camera in the film Carnegie Hall, in which he conducted the New York Philharmonic Orchestra as they accompanied violinist Jascha Heifetz in an abbreviated version of the first movement of Tchaikovsky's violin concerto.
