Currently the smallest SUV offering in the Mercedes-Benz lineup, the GLK-Class enters 2012 with very few changes since its debut a little over two years ago. The 2012 Mercedes-Benz GLK is still only offered with the port-injected 3.5-liter, V-6 engine rated at 268 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, which is adequate enough for this compact, five-passenger SUV. The engine is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission
The GLK also boasts an extensive array of safety features including a knee airbag, pelvic airbags, as well as an available rear backup camera. The GLK has a decidedly rugged exterior appearance with sharp creases and angles throughout the sheetmetal, glass, and headlights. For a more sporty look, an optional AMG Styling Package adds AMG-style front and rear bumpers, 20-inch wheels, LED daytime running lights, and aluminum roof rails.
Inside, passengers are surrounded by optional wood trim, faux or real leather seating surfaces, an optional panoramic sunroof, and optional navigation system with satellite radio. For 2012, the media interface has been relocated from atop the dashboard to the center console.

Now on its third model year, the 2012 Mercedes-Benz GLK350 is still a relatively new SUV for the marquee. As such, its mechanical bits (including the 3.5-liter, V-6-engine), sheetmetal, and interior remain largely unchanged. Inside, the media interface has been relocated from the dashboard to the center console. The GLK's standard audio head unit now features a 5.8-inch color display. Also making its way inside is a new steering wheel wrapped in premium leather and a newly-designed headlight switch.
Aside from the long-running G-Class, the GLK features the most boxy and angular design among all Mercedes-Benz SUVs. The front fascia includes square-shaped headlights that flank a large grille and a three-pointed star emblem. The sharp angle where the hood and the nearly upright windshield meet contribute to the GLK's rugged looks, especially when viewed from the side. The GLK comes standard with 19-inch wheels, but an optional AMG Sport Package includes larger 20-inch wheels for a more aggressive stance. Also included in the package: AMG-style front and rear bumpers, LED daytime running lamps, and an aluminum roof rail.
The 2012 GLK350 is considered a compact SUV, but still has room for five passengers. The back seats fold down for added cargo (65.9 cu-ft with the seats down, 35.0 with them up), which can be easily loaded from the rearvia a vertically operated hatch door. Standard interior features include eight-way, power adjustable seats, dual-zone climate control with dust filter, and a tilt/telescopic steering wheel. Optional equipment includes a navigation system with back up camera and on-screen directional lines, a panoramic sunroof, Keyless Go, and rear-seat entertainment package.
The only engine choice available for the GLK is a 3.5-liter, V-6-engine that is rated at 268 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. Given the updated 3.5-liter making its way through the Benz lineup, we suspect the GLK will be getting it under the hood soon. It is mated to a seven-speed automatic transmission that sends power to the rear wheels. The 4Matic all-wheel drive system can be had as an option, which helps improve handling and grip during inclement weather or off-road situations. The GLK has a four-wheel independent suspension with standards Agility Control that automatically adjusts the shock absorbers to boost handling dynamics.
The GLK350 comes with a long list of standard airbags including driver and passenger front airbags, front pelvic airbags, a driver side knee bag, and curtain airbags for both rows of passengers. ABS with electronic brake assist, stability control, traction control, and seat belt pretensioners are also standard.
