Description
1943 American League All-Stars Black BatAll-Star Champions. Very strong condition.
A magnificent 1943 American League All-Stars black bat from the first night game played between the AL and NL. World Series black bats from this era are challenging to find, but All-Star black bats are even more difficult to locate. Joe McCarthy, behind a timely home run hit by Bobby Doerr, managed the AL to a 5-3 victory. The length of the bat is 35 inches and it features 28 names and signatures that are stamped into its barrel, including Lou Boudreau, Bill Dickey, Hal Newhouser, Bobby Doerr, Luke Appling, Joe Gordon and Joe McCarthy. Excellent to Mint condition.
Beginning in 1934, Hillerich & Bradsby began manufacturing special, high-quality, black-lacquered baseball bats with gold and green gilt-stamped facsimile players signatures. They were to be awarded to the players and select employees of each World Series & All-Star team. This practice continued until 1999 and was then discontinued due to the increased prohibitive costs of such an endeavor.
