Leipzig: Jules Heinrich Zimmermann, (1923). Quarto, 13 -1/2 inches high by 10-3/4 inches wide. Softcover, the contents are laid loose into printed tan wraps, as published. The covers are darkened along the edges which are also creased and slightly chipped. The covers are splitting along the head and tail of the spine. 19 & [1] pages, including the covers. The edges of the pages are darkened and the top front corners of several pages are heavily creased. There are several discreet annotations and marks in pencil and red graphite throughout. Good

Inscribed by the composer on the front cover in a light sienna toned ink:
"To Pat Ewing / with wishes of success / in his musical studies. / Nicholas Medtner".
Medtner's 11th Sonata, the
"Sonata tragica in C minor: Allegro risoluto",
was composed as one of the works comprising the second cycle of his
"Vergessene Weisen"
["Forgotten Melodies"] Op. 39, No 5. Medtner's second cycle consists of five pieces culminating with the
"Sonata tragica".
