Description
The Central of Georgia Railway Company (CofGa) was a regional carrier that served the states of Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. For over 100 years, the CofGa owned all or part of Ocean Steamship Company (OSS), a steamer service that linked Savannah with New York, Boston and Philadelphia. OSS ships carried both freight and passengers. For auction is an extremely rare item from the OSS, a baggage tag, ciirca 1920s. This was attached to passenger bags to note they were to be removed from the ships when they berthed in Savannah. The tag, which measures appx 1 1/4 x 1 1/4 inches, appears to be made of brass and some other metal alloy. It bears the impression "O.S.S. CO, 528, SAVANNAH". The "528" is the baggage number assigned to a passenger.1920s Ocean Steamship Co - Savannah, Georgia - Central of Georgia Railroad

The Central of Georgia Railway Company
(CofGa) was a
regional carrier that served the states of Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee
. Most of its trackage was in Georgia, where it served the major cities of Atlanta, Savannah, Augusta, Macon and Columbus. Lines from Georgia extended to Birmingham, Montgomery and other smaller cities and towns in Alabama, but its sole penetration into Tennessee was a route to Chattanooga.
For over 100 years, the CofGa owned all or part of
Ocean Steamship Company

. The "528" is the baggage number assigned to a passenger.
This item is in very good condition, for being close to 100 years old. It shows moderate wear and should clean up nicely with brass polish and muscle. It has no breaks, bends or other damage.
